Free exercise offer in Amberg

Free fitness after work: Amberg starts again with outdoor sports

Amberg is bringing back the free outdoor series "Fit into the Evening." Starting Wednesday, June 10, 2026, interested people can train together at 7 p.m. without registration and without age restrictions – outdoors and with changing Amberg clubs as hosts.

The kick-off will take place on the Bleichwiese next to the Amberg Congress Centrum (ACC). There, the Amberg Ski Association will lead the first approximately one-hour session. Further dates are planned until mid-July, each Wednesday at the same time. According to the city, the program is organized together with AOK Amberg, the Amberg municipal utilities, and the Amberg City Sports Association.

Five clubs shape the program until mid-July

The series relies on a simple principle: go outside, join in, no barriers. On five evenings, different clubs will design the training sessions:

  1. June 10, 2026, 7 p.m.: Amberg Ski Association (Kick-off)
  2. June 17, 2026, 7 p.m.: TV 1861 Amberg
  3. June 24, 2026, 7 p.m.: DJK Ammersricht
  4. July 1, 2026, 7 p.m.: DJK 2002 Amberg
  5. July 15, 2026, 7 p.m.: SC Germania Amberg (Finale)

This keeps the format deliberately open: Anyone who feels like moving can join spontaneously – regardless of fitness level or age.

Why the cooperation means more than scheduling for the city

The fact that the city is once again organizing the series with partners from sports, health, and municipal infrastructure is more than just a division of organizational labor: It shows how deeply rooted local sports are in Amberg.

According to the city, the Amberg City Sports Association brings together over 60 clubs with around 15,000 members – a network that makes such low-threshold offers possible in the first place, as clubs can contribute know-how, trainers, and different training focuses.

The role of AOK Amberg fits the health-oriented focus of the project: As the regional office of AOK Bayern, it is present locally and states that it looks after around 102,500 members in the Amberg region.

For the Amberg municipal utilities, the connection to club sports is also obvious: As a municipal utility company, they are involved in local sports promotion and, according to their own information, provide 50,000 euros annually for clubs as part of a sports promotion initiative.

This constellation creates an offer that does not aim at competitive sports, but at regular exercise in everyday life – especially for people who otherwise have no fixed access to courses or club times.

Prizes as an additional incentive – with a view to the kick-off

Accompanying the series, raffles are also planned: Prizes from AOK and the Amberg municipal utilities will be raffled among the participants.

For the opening evening, AOK is also announcing five cooling towels as prizes – referring to the nationwide Heat Protection Day on June 11.

For the city, "Fit into the Evening" is thus not just a single sports event, but a short, concentrated summer series that makes clubs visible, brings people together, and easily integrates exercise into the evening.
