Conferences, Events, and the East Bavaria Hall
The Gut Matheshof is not just a hotel, but a historically grown riding and event center of exceptional size. The official history dates back to 1671 when the Matheshof belonged to the Spies family according to tradition and documents. It was not until 1954 that the estate became a Gut, and after its acquisition by Ernst Werner Schmidt in 1988, the property was gradually developed. From halls, facilities, and stables emerged the current East Bavarian equestrian sports and tournament center, which is now considered one of the largest addresses for equestrian sports and events. The website describes the Gut as a place where classic equestrian highlights, western riding, and other events come together. Thus, Gut Matheshof is a location whose identity goes far beyond an ordinary hotel. ([gut-matheshof.de](https://www.gut-matheshof.de/en/))
The centerpiece of the facility is the East Bavaria Hall. It offers a riding area of 80 by 40 meters, flexible seating options, and over 4,500 fixed seats; additionally, 1,000 more seats can be set up if needed. In total, the hall can accommodate up to 6,400 visitors. Surrounding the arena are 24 versatile rooms with areas of up to 1,800 square meters that can be used for conferences, changing rooms, production offices, or catering. There are also 17 conference rooms and six group rooms, as well as additional meeting rooms in the hotel itself. The technical equipment is correspondingly broad, allowing events from classic conferences to large sports events to be well planned. ([gut-matheshof.de](https://www.gut-matheshof.de/en/))
The Festhalle Rieden also plays a central role in the event concept. It has around 1,800 square meters of space, can be divided into sections by curtains, and is suitable according to the official description for concerts, fairs, general meetings, or presentations. This hall can accommodate up to 1,200 guests. Together, the Hotel Gut Matheshof, the East Bavaria Hall, the Festhalle Rieden, and the open spaces of the Gut can host events for up to 12,000 guests; in the outdoor area, even up to 20,000 people are possible. This explains why the location is so interesting for corporate events, sports events, concert formats, and special events. The official website is very helpful for this, as it not only shows rooms and wellness areas but also offers a 360° tour. The images and the tour make it clear that here not only a classic hotel room awaits, but a complete place to stay with spa, gastronomy, garden areas, and event spaces. This combination is particularly relevant for many search queries for photos, as images often serve as the most important decision-making aid before booking. ([hotel-gut-matheshof.de](https://hotel-gut-matheshof.de/en/))
The first impression of the establishment is primarily created by contrasts: tranquil nature surrounding the premises, generous architecture, modern wellness areas, and at the same time the vastness of the riding and tournament center. Those looking at images of the accommodation quickly recognize the clear focus on relaxation and functionality. The rooms appear modern and comfortable, the wellness areas spacious and bright, and the event spaces show that Gut Matheshof is also designed for large formats. This visual mix explains why the location is sought after by both leisure guests and companies, athletes, and organizers. For SEO searches, the photo intent is therefore not a minor topic but a real decision factor: images create trust, convey size, and make the overall offering of the establishment immediately tangible.
Those looking for a location with professional infrastructure, ample parking, clear room structures, and a strong agricultural-sporting background will find one of the most versatile facilities in the region here. Photos, 360° Tour, and First Impressions
Those looking for photos of the Forest Hotel Gut Matheshof typically want to quickly understand how the establishment appears, how large the facility is, and whether the atmosphere fits their travel occasion. The official website is very helpful for this, as it not only shows rooms and wellness areas but also offers a 360° tour. The visual impression is characterized by a mix of rural tranquility, modern hotel amenities, and the dimensions of a large event location.
History, Location, and Special Impressions in the Upper Palatinate
The history of Gut Matheshof gives the location its special character. According to the official account, the estate was owned by the Spies family from 1671 to 1988. It was not until 1954 that the estate became a Gut through the marriage of the Mathes and Kredler families, and even then, there was a considerable offering with 160 hectares of land, an inn, and a riding school with a large indoor riding hall. After the acquisition by Ernst Werner Schmidt from Nuremberg in 1988, an additional 40 hectares of forest, meadows, and fields were added. Subsequently, the estate inn was renovated, the Forest Hotel Gut Matheshof was built, and the current East Bavarian equestrian sports and tournament center was developed step by step. This is not just any hotel story, but the development of a true traditional location that has grown over centuries. ([gut-matheshof.de](https://www.gut-matheshof.de/en/))
The location in the Upper Palatinate also contributes to this impression. The establishment is situated in a picturesque environment and is still well connected to the surrounding cities. Amberg, Schwandorf, Sulzbach-Rosenberg, Auerbach, Weiden, Regensburg, and Nuremberg can be easily reached from here, making day trips and business appointments easier. At the same time, the feeling of being far from the hectic everyday life is preserved. This balance of accessibility, nature, and infrastructure makes the Forest Hotel Gut Matheshof so interesting. It is a place for guests seeking tranquility but who do not want to forgo activity; for people who want wellness but also need functional paths and parking; and for organizers who want to combine size and structure. The result is a location with its own profile that clearly distinguishes itself from classic city hotels or small country inns in the region. This is an excellent hotel. We stayed there in January 2026 and found several aspects particularly noteworthy: 1. The wellness area and outdoor pool are spectacular and amazing. The design and the view of the new spa area is breathtaking. 2. Local management was highly attentive and responsive to our needs. Thumbs up. 3. The dinner was enjoyable, and the breakfast buffet featured a wide selection of food.

For a 4 star hotel that offers spa and pool facilities, the level of hospitality and guest amenities provided is surprisingly below standard. It’s difficult to understand how a hotel can promote a wellness experience, yet not include basic amenities such as robes and slippers in the guest rooms. Instead, guests are expected to pay extra just to access these essentials for the spa and pool area. Additionally, the guest rooms do not provide standard toiletries such as lotion, shampoo, and conditioner. To make matters worse, the breakfast did not taste fresh, which was disappointing and not what one would expect from a hotel of this category. Furthermore, the spa services were fully booked due to limited staff, as there were only two employees available. For a hotel of this size, this is unacceptable. It raises the question of how this can truly be considered a wellness hotel if guests are unable to access the services that are supposed to be a major part of the experience. Overall, this stay did not meet the standard level of comfort, service, and hospitality expected from a 4 star hotel. We will not be returning. For future guests, I strongly recommend bringing your own essentials such as robes, slippers, and toiletries, otherwise you may be charged extra for items that should already be included as part of your stay.

Fantastic experience. Rooms big, clean. Breakfast phenomenal and free parking space. Also in a quiet area. We book every time we travel home during Christmas period. Definitely worth the price.

Room is clean. Would be great to have soap, little shampoo and shower gel. In other hotels is it as a standard. Even in cheaper.

We were looking for a hotel in a green, peaceful setting where we could find rest and relaxation. We found exactly that here. The service was excellent, and there’s a dedicated area in the underground garage for bicycles, where eBikes can also be charged. We will definitely come back.
