Glass Grinding Pullenreuth | Rauhnacht & Events
The glass grinding facility in Pullenreuth is a place where regional history, nature experience, and small to larger events come together in a surprisingly harmonious way. Those searching for the glass grinding facility often come across the term Marktredwitz online, but the facility described here is located in the municipality of Pullenreuth in the Steinwald Nature Park and has been revived as a former glass grinding facility and information center. The Steinwaldia Society took over the property in 2010 and lovingly renovated it. Today, the glass grinding facility is a destination for people who want to discover historical traces, hike the Schleifererpfad, enjoy seasonal catering, or experience special events like the Rauhnacht. According to tourism and club pages, the place is currently only open during events or by request, which makes the visit intentionally exclusive and planable. The mix of forest clearing, industrial culture, mythological world, and club life gives the glass grinding facility a unique character that goes far beyond a normal excursion venue. Rauhnacht and Events at the Glass Grinding Facility Pullenreuth
The most well-known event at the glass grinding facility is the Rauhnacht, organized by the Steinwaldia Pullenreuth e.V. Society, which has been one of the defining dates in the regional event calendar for years. The legendary Rauhnacht is scheduled for December 29, 2026, at 4:30 PM. Even the official event notices show how strongly this date is associated with light, atmosphere, and narrative staging. The Rauhnacht is thus not an interchangeable event, but a piece of lived regional tradition that appeals to visitors with a torch parade, atmospheric lighting, and mythological motifs. The event notices also make it clear that the offering is family-friendly and experience-oriented. This blend of tradition, nature, and a small stage in the forest makes the glass grinding facility highly relevant for inquiries related to Rauhnacht, events, and the Christmas season. ([pullenreuth.de](https://pullenreuth.de/tourismus-und-kultur/veranstaltungen/aktuelle-veranstaltungen-und-veranstaltungsmeldung/2026/sagenhafte-rauhnacht))
The Rauhnacht includes, according to official descriptions, hundreds of candles, torches, and fire baskets that create a special atmosphere around the glass grinding facility. Visitors start the torch parade in Pullenreuth and then enter an environment where myths and local stories are vividly staged. The municipality explicitly points out the organizer Steinwaldia for the event, and the tourism site also describes that culinary offerings are available on-site. This explains why many people perceive the glass grinding facility not only as a historical site but also as a seasonally charged event location. Anyone planning a visit should therefore inform themselves in advance about the respective date, as the Rauhnacht is not just any market evening, but a firmly anchored highlight in the winter half-year. ([pullenreuth.de](https://pullenreuth.de/tourismus-und-kultur/veranstaltungen/aktuelle-veranstaltungen-und-veranstaltungsmeldung/2026/sagenhafte-rauhnacht))
In addition to the Rauhnacht, the glass grinding facility also appears in other regional event notices, such as for guided tours, catering dates, or on the Day of Open Monuments. This shows that the place should not be reduced to a single event. Rather, the glass grinding facility in Pullenreuth is used differently depending on the season and calendar: sometimes as a catering location, sometimes as a venue for guided tours, sometimes as a historically charged meeting point for small programs. This variety is SEO-relevant because search queries like glass grinding facility events, glass grinding facility Christmas market, or Rauhnacht glass grinding facility all connect to the same place. For visitors, this means: The glass grinding facility is not an anonymous event space, but a place with identity that consciously integrates its dates into the cultural life of the Steinwald. ([pullenreuth.de](https://pullenreuth.de/tourismus-und-kultur/veranstaltungen/aktuelle-veranstaltungen-und-veranstaltungsmeldung/2025/tag-des-offenen-denkmals-fuehrungen-vorfuehrungen-glasschleif-museum-und-heiliges-grab-in-pullenreuth))
Directions, Parking, and Route Description to the Glass Grinding Facility
For searching for glass grinding facility directions and glass grinding facility parking, the official route details are particularly helpful. The address is Glasschleif 1, 95704 Pullenreuth. According to the Upper Palatinate Forest site, the facility is located in Arnoldsreuth and is only about 200 meters away from a parking lot of the same name. This makes access generally feasible, even if the path leads through a rural forest area and cannot be compared to an inner-city event address. Therefore, anyone visiting the location for the first time should not only enter the address into their GPS but also rely on the signage on-site. This signage is explicitly mentioned in the tourist information. This is an important point because the charm of the glass grinding facility lies precisely in its location away from usual traffic. ([steinwald-urlaub.de](https://www.steinwald-urlaub.de/infostellen))
The route description provides a clear approach: Coming from Marktredwitz or Neusorg, one follows the turnoff to Dechantsees and Arnoldsreuth, turns right at the Forsthaus Arnoldsreuth, and then turns right again at the next intersection. From the parking lot, one then follows the signage. These details are important not only for drivers but also for anyone arriving with a short hike or walk. The place already feels like a destination in nature on the way there and not like a classic parking lot with a main entrance. Those attending events like the Rauhnacht should also consider that depending on the number of visitors, it is worthwhile to arrive early. Especially for evening events in winter or on popular catering days, it is sensible to plan some time for the walk and orientation. ([steinwald-urlaub.de](https://www.steinwald-urlaub.de/infostellen))
The surroundings further enhance this experience. The glass grinding facility is located in a forest clearing in the Steinwald Nature Park, thus in a landscape that conveys tranquility and nature even upon arrival. The route through Arnoldsreuth and the clear signage make the approach comprehensible, while the small distance to the hiking parking lot underscores the character of an excursion site. For many search queries related to glass grinding facility parking, glass grinding facility directions, or glass grinding facility opening hours, this is the crucial practical hint: The glass grinding facility is accessible, but it remains consciously embedded in forest, paths, and regional structure. Those who accept this framework and do not expect an urban large venue will usually experience the visit as relaxed and harmonious. ([steinwald-urlaub.de](https://www.steinwald-urlaub.de/infostellen))
History of the Former Glass Grinding Facility in the Steinwald Nature Park
The historical significance of the glass grinding facility can only be understood if one knows the regional background of glass grinding. The Upper Palatinate Forest information points out that the Upper Palatinate was a center for grinding and polishing glass for mirror production from the 18th to the early 20th century. In this context, the glass grinding facility near Pullenreuth stands as a revived place of memory. The building is therefore not just a nicely restored house in the green but a testament to a once-important trade that has left its mark in the region. The Steinwaldia Society purchased the property in 2010 and later lovingly renovated it to ensure that this craft does not fall into oblivion. Those interested in glass grinding museum or glass grinding history will find here not only information boards but also an authentic place where regional work traditions are made visible. ([steinwald-urlaub.de](https://www.steinwald-urlaub.de/infostellen))
The revival as an information center is also exciting because it combines historical substance with modern communication. The glass grinding facility is not a glorified open-air museum but a place where one can learn about excavations, local finds, forest history, and geology. Large overview boards, short documentary films, and exhibitions on finds and excavations convey knowledge in a form that is also accessible to day visitors without prior knowledge. This is precisely where a significant part of the appeal lies: The glass grinding facility not only tells of machines and craftsmanship but also of the question of how regions can preserve their cultural memory. The combination of monument-related substance and current use is particularly fitting for search terms like historical glass grinding facility, glass grinding shop, or glass grinder because it makes the connection between past and present directly experienceable. ([steinwald-urlaub.de](https://www.steinwald-urlaub.de/infostellen))
That the glass grinding facility is located in a larger natural and cultural space further enhances its significance. It is situated in the Steinwald Nature Park and is also described as a contact point for information about the nature park and the Geopark Bavaria-Bohemia. Thus, the place is not only a relic of industrial history but also an entry point into the landscape and cultural history of eastern Upper Franconia and the Upper Palatinate. For visitors, this is a special appeal: One comes for an event, a meal, or a guided tour but often stays because of the connection between landscape, history, and regional knowledge. Especially in a time when many places seem interchangeable, the glass grinding facility has the advantage of having a clear origin and a clear narrative. This makes it strong in searchability, distinctive, and locally anchored at the same time. ([steinwald-urlaub.de](https://www.steinwald-urlaub.de/infostellen))
Schleifererpfad, Exhibition, and Nature Experience Around the Place
The Schleifererpfad is one of the most convincing arguments for understanding the glass grinding facility not just as a destination but as a starting point. The 1.5-kilometer path begins directly at the glass grinding facility and thematically leads into the world of glass grinding, forest history, and the geology of the Steinwald. For visitors, this is ideal because a short walk is combined with substantive added value. Instead of a pure circular path, one gets a route that conveys knowledge while simultaneously revealing the landscape. This fits with search terms like Schleifererpfad, glass grinding museum, and Steinwald nature park, as the experience is conveyed not only through information but also through movement in the terrain. The path makes it clear that the glass grinding facility is more than just a building; it is the starting point of a small learning and nature experience. ([steinwald-urlaub.de](https://www.steinwald-urlaub.de/infostellen))
The information offerings on-site are also remarkable. The official description mentions large overview boards, short documentary films, exhibitions on finds and excavations, and lectures. Visitors can thus either orient themselves briefly or dive deeper into the topics depending on their interest. This modular character is particularly attractive for families, groups, and curious individuals. Those who just stop by take individual impressions with them; those who bring more time can experience the glass grinding facility as a small educational place in the green. That additional information about the Steinwald Nature Park and the Geopark Bavaria-Bohemia is offered shows the regional ambition of the facility. It is therefore not an isolated nostalgia point but a building block of a larger tourist and cultural communication chain. ([steinwald-urlaub.de](https://www.steinwald-urlaub.de/infostellen))
The location also supports the nature experience. The glass grinding facility is situated in a forest clearing and is complemented by hiking and biking trails in the surrounding area. The Franconian Mountain Trail encircles the site to the west and east, and nearby runs the Steinwald Cycle Path. This makes the location interesting for people who want to combine a hike, a bike tour, or a cultural stop. The glass grinding facility is therefore particularly well-suited for visitors who do not just want to check off a destination but plan a small route or a half-day excursion. Between forest, information, and dining, a place of tranquility is created, but also with content. For SEO, this mix is relevant because it translates search intentions like glass grinding facility Christmas market, glass grinding facility events, or glass grinding facility history into a coherent overall picture. ([steinwald-urlaub.de](https://www.steinwald-urlaub.de/infostellen))
Opening Hours, Catering, and Regional Cuisine at the Glass Grinding Facility
The glass grinding facility has consciously remained small and manageable as an excursion venue. The Upper Palatinate Forest site describes a regional cuisine and mentions 18 seats indoors and 18 seats outdoors. This initially sounds like little, but it fits the character of the place because here, proximity and atmosphere count rather than mass. Particularly interesting is the addition that the glass grinding facility has a small gastronomy with a guest room and beer garden in the adjacent building. There, hikers and cyclists stop by in the summer. At the same time, the Steinwaldia information point emphasizes that the glass grinding facility is currently only open during events or by request. This combination of seasonal catering and event-related access makes the location flexible, but not available daily like a normal restaurant. Therefore, those who want to come should check the calendar. ([steinwald-urlaub.de](https://www.steinwald-urlaub.de/infostellen))
For the search intention glass grinding facility catering or glass grinding facility opening hours, it is especially important that the opening hours vary throughout the year. The tourism site mentions catering dates from May to October on Fridays and Saturdays, and from November to April on Fridays, each according to the calendar. This does not mean that the place is constantly freely accessible, but that the gastronomic use is tied to specific dates and occasions. This is precisely what keeps the glass grinding facility a place with a special rhythm. Visitors do not encounter a constant throughput backdrop here, but a consciously maintained event location where catering, club work, and events come together. This structure is typical for rural cultural sites and makes the glass grinding facility particularly interesting for excursions on weekends or for festive occasions. ([oberpfaelzerwald.de](https://www.oberpfaelzerwald.de/glasschleif))
The culinary description is pleasantly down-to-earth. The official tourism presentation speaks of simple but tasty dishes, while visitors report suitable food and drinks at events. Even though the glass grinding facility is not a large gastronomy center, this restraint fits the place: regional cuisine, short distances, family atmosphere, and a framework that is oriented towards the landscape. Those expecting a large menu or an urban event gastronomy are looking in the wrong place; however, those who appreciate an authentic stop in the green with history and seasonal opening will find a very suitable place at the glass grinding facility. The combination of catering, a small beer garden, and event character is therefore an important part of the local identity and one of the reasons why the location remains memorable for visitors. ([steinwald-urlaub.de](https://www.steinwald-urlaub.de/infostellen))
Guided Tours, Group Visits, and Practical Tips for the Visit
An important part of the offering is the guided tours. According to Steinwaldia, guided tours cost 25 euros for up to 12 people; each additional person costs 2 euros. This is particularly interesting for groups, clubs, hiking groups, or families who plan the visit not just as a walk but as a small educational journey. The guided tours are possible independently of the catering times, which makes planning easier. Therefore, anyone organizing a group can separate the content part from the dining part or connect them purposefully. For search queries like glass grinding facility tours or glass grinding museum, this is a clear added value because it can turn a short stop into a structured program point. Especially in combination with the Schleifererpfad, the visit can be well integrated as a half-day or day component. ([steinwald-urlaub.de](https://www.steinwald-urlaub.de/infostellen))
It is also practical that the glass grinding facility is described in the official material as a place where one can obtain information about history, excavations, nature park, and geopark. This means: A visit is worthwhile not only for people with a historical special interest but also for anyone looking for a well-packaged excursion. Families benefit from the mix of path, forest, and narrative; adults find the place a quiet, regional alternative to overcrowded excursion destinations; and groups can orient themselves by the clear address and the small but well-describable offering. Those visiting a winter event like the Rauhnacht should prepare for forested paths, evening ambiance, and a special atmosphere. Those coming in summer, on the other hand, experience the quieter side with dining, nature, and a tour. ([steinwald-urlaub.de](https://www.steinwald-urlaub.de/infostellen))
For planning, it is generally advisable to take a look at the event calendar or make a prior inquiry, as the glass grinding facility does not operate as a classic permanent establishment. This mix of availability and uniqueness makes the place exciting for both SEO and real visitors. Therefore, search queries often feature terms like glass grinding facility opening hours, glass grinding facility parking, glass grinding facility directions, and glass grinding facility events side by side. Those who properly classify the glass grinding facility quickly understand that the place does not rely on quick processing but on consciously curated visits. This is not a disadvantage but part of the concept: The glass grinding facility thrives on dates, landscape, and history. Those who take this into account will experience a place that seems small yet tells a lot. ([steinwald-urlaub.de](https://www.steinwald-urlaub.de/infostellen))

I went on the Rauhnacht hike there on December 29th. We walked with torches from Pullenreuth to the glassworks. Everything there was illuminated by torches. Legends about the Rauhnächte were acted out. It was a wonderful experience. Food and drinks were reasonably priced and also very tasty 😋👍

It was too crowded. The shuttle bus service couldn't keep up with the number of people. It was our first time there, like many others, and we weren't familiar with the area, so we couldn't find our way from the parking lot to the venue on foot. The shuttle buses followed the same route as the many pedestrians and moved slowly along the narrow path. As a result, it took quite a while for them to return to pick up new guests. There were also very long queues at the food and drink stands, and some items sold out quickly. The smaller performances were also difficult to reach due to the crowds. The venue itself was nicely laid out and quite romantic with the snow and numerous fire pits. However, the small fire pits on the ground posed a considerable safety hazard due to the crowds, especially since there were many families with small children. It was a nice event for families with young children, with the performances. Perhaps this should have been emphasized more in the advertising. Given the crowds, an entry control system would also be worth considering.

The Rauhnächte (Twelve Days of Christmas) at the Glasschleif (Glass Mill) are a memorable way for me to end the year at the end of December. From Pullenreuth, visitors walk with torches through the forest to the Glasschleif. Once there, they are greeted by numerous tea lights and bonfires, culinary delights, and original short plays on the theme of the Rauhnächte. The Rauhnächte are suitable for the whole family. A fantastic event that I hope will continue for many years to come! A huge thank you to the organizers, who put so much love and attention into every detail of the Rauhnächte celebration each year. Last year, shuttle vehicles were available from the Glasschleif back to Pullenreuth for a small fee after the event. The event is free to attend. Prices for food and drinks are reasonable. Vegetarian options are available alongside grilled food and roasted chestnuts, and they are all delicious!

I've only been to the Rauhnacht festival so far, and I was disappointed. It was impossible to know what was happening where and when, and the food and drink stalls were all very close together and packed with people. You couldn't tell which stall had which queue. The only thing I liked were the many lights (candles).
