Drahthammer Schlößl | Opening Hours & Menu

The Drahthammer Schlößl is a traditional 4-star hotel-restaurant in Amberg, picturesque located at the former state garden show grounds, through which the Vils – Amberg's historical waterway – flows. In the lovingly restored ensemble, 1000 years of history meet modern comfort. Guests can reach the old town on foot in about 20 minutes; directly at the edge of the city, cycling and hiking trails pass by the house. In addition to 43 individually designed rooms, the Schlößl offers three stylishly furnished restaurants, a sun terrace, and numerous niches from the library to the piano bar. For celebrations and business events, several flexibly furnished rooms are available. Parking is directly in front of the house, and two E-charging points complement the offer. Those who appreciate regional Upper Palatinate cuisine with international accents will find their home here, as will couples wishing to celebrate their wedding in a princely atmosphere and companies looking for a conference hotel in a quiet, green location between Nuremberg and Regensburg.

Opening Hours, Menu, and Prices in the Restaurant

For visiting the restaurant, planning with regard to the times of day is particularly convenient because the opening hours are clearly structured. According to the restaurant page, lunch is served Friday to Sunday from 12:00 to 14:00. Those who want to spend the afternoon relaxing with sweets can come Tuesday to Sunday from 14:00 for coffee and cake – homemade cakes and pastries are a trademark here and are served on the sun terrace in good weather. In the evening, the restaurant opens Monday to Saturday from 18:00 for the à-la-carte offer; on Sunday it is closed from 18:00, as well as on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday afternoons. These clear times make it easier to reserve for family dinners, business evenings, or a romantic dinner.

The kitchen relies on seasonally changing menus and combines regional Upper Palatinate classics with international ideas. A look at the current menu (PDF) shows the range and price level: For starters, there is, for example, marinated salmon for €15 with two types of beet and caraway crunch or a hearty beef consommé for €10. Among the main courses, the selection ranges from Munich schnitzel with sweet mustard, horseradish, fried potatoes, and salad for €22 to classic beef specialties like beef back with melting onions, roasted dumplings, and port wine sauce (€29) to game and fish dishes like venison back with chestnut brioche, Brussels sprouts, and red wine sauce (€33) or fried pike-perch fillet on millet risotto with leek and beurre blanc (€32). Vegetarian and vegan options – such as homemade pumpkin tortellini with Styrian pumpkin seed oil – are also available. To conclude, desserts like homemade apple strudel with rum cream and almond ice cream (€13) or warm chocolate cake with speculoos ice cream (€13) tempt.

The beverage selection is equally diverse. The wine and beverage menu (PDF) features aperitifs from espresso martini to yuzu drink, non-alcoholic options like virgin cosmopolitan or vibrant tonic, as well as a curated wine selection from Germany, Austria, Italy, and France. Examples include a Bad Dürkheim Silvaner, a Rheingau organic Riesling, or a Lugana from Veneto. Those celebrating special occasions will find sparkling wines from Crémant to champagne labels. Additionally, the house regularly hosts atmospheric enjoyment evenings, such as candlelight dinners with piano or string music. Tip: For highly sought-after dates, reserve in advance, especially on weekends and during seasonal highlights like Easter. Price indications are guidelines from the respective current menus and may vary seasonally – the linked PDFs provide the most reliable overview.

Weddings and Celebrations at Drahthammer Schlößl

As a wedding venue, the Drahthammer Schlößl combines a historical backdrop with contemporary event expertise. The official wedding page describes how the team individually plans celebrations from intimate gatherings to large festivities. Even the reception can be attractively staged – optionally at the splash fountain outdoors or in the atmospheric piano bar. Various furnished rooms are available in the house, decorated according to the number of guests, season, and style. The in-house head chef advises couples on menu or buffet design; for inspiration, there are detailed menu and buffet suggestions available as a PDF, which can of course be adjusted to taste and budget. Everything is possible, from elegant multi-course menus to diverse buffets with regional classics and international accents.

The support ranges from the first introductory meeting through the joint fine planning to the big day. The team organizes the champagne reception upon request, coordinates floral arrangements and seasonal room decorations, ensures a smooth service process, and remains open to personal ideas that make the day unique. For guests from afar, the combination of event location and 4-star hotel is particularly convenient: 43 rooms in different categories are available on-site, from cozy Schlößl rooms to suites. This makes arriving the day before and enjoying a cozy brunch the next morning uncomplicated. Thanks to the location on the green banks of the Vils, photo opportunities in nature are just as available as shots in the historic rooms. Those wishing to combine the celebration with a trip to the city can reach the Amberg old town in about 20 minutes on foot – ideal for civil registry visits, churches, or a couple's shoot in a medieval setting.

Practical tips for planning: For large groups, early coordination of the date is advisable, especially in the popular months from May to September. The room layout, seating options, and technology (e.g., mobile sound solution, podium) are individually coordinated by the house; menu tastings or the coordination of special requests (vegetarian/vegan, allergies) are possible. Thanks to the smart division with reception areas indoors and outdoors, the celebration can be adapted to the weather and daylight. For children, separate niches and green areas on the grounds provide relaxed retreats. Parking at the house makes access easier; two E-charging points are available. For a safe conclusion, room contingents can be requested.

Directions, Parking, and E-Charging Stations

The address is Drahthammerstraße 30, 92224 Amberg. The house is located at the edge of the former state garden show grounds directly on the Vils – quiet, green, and yet close to the city. By car, the journey from several directions is comfortable: From the Nuremberg area, the A6 leads towards Amberg (exits Amberg-South or Amberg-East). From the direction of Regensburg/Hof, the A93 is suitable (connection Amberg or Nabburg), and from Munich/Berlin, the A9 (e.g., exits Lauf or Pegnitz; then via federal roads). From the Amberg exits, it takes only a few minutes by car to reach the Schlößl. Those arriving by train travel to Amberg and reach the house by taxi in a few minutes; on foot, it takes about 20–30 minutes from various starting points in the old town along the Vils and through park-like paths.

For guests with cars, there is a parking space directly in front of the house – particularly convenient for celebrations and conferences with materials. In addition, the conference folder indicates two E-charging points on the premises; the use of the charging points is subject to a fee. For longer stays or if the in-house charging spaces are occupied, the city of Amberg offers a public charging network with AC and DC stations, which can be used via the city utilities Amberg (SWA-E-Charge) on a card/app basis. Traditional parking options in the city – including parking garages like Ziegeltor – are signposted along a parking guidance system; mobile parking via app or SMS is possible in many zones. For travel buses, coordination with the house in advance is advisable to efficiently plan boarding and alighting as well as parking. Cyclists can comfortably reach the hotel via signposted bike paths; the network of paths along the Vils is well developed and also suitable for walks between celebration, conference, and dinner.

As an excursion tip in the immediate vicinity, the popular boat trips on the Vils are recommended, which operate between the old town (ship bridge) and the Drahthammerwiese (seasonal). Those wishing to explore the city after check-in will find historical buildings, small shops, and cafés in the old town. For navigation devices, it is advisable to enter the full address including postal code. In winter road conditions, access via the highways is also reliable; the premises themselves are easily accessible. For e-mobility users, it is worth taking a quick look at the app of the city utilities Amberg or common charging apps for the occupancy situation in the area before arrival.

Conferences, Rooms, and Capacities

For business events, the Drahthammer Schlößl is established as a conference hotel in the Upper Palatinate. It is conveniently located between Nuremberg and Regensburg and offers several bright rooms with natural light, air conditioning, and modern conference technology. The capacities described in the conference folder are transparently indicated: The Theresien Hall (100 m²) is suitable for up to 80 people in theater seating, up to 50 in parliamentary or herringbone seating, up to 25 in U-shape, and up to 30 in block. The seminar room (also 100 m²) has identical values (up to 80/50/25 or 24 in block). The conference room (55 m²) is ideal for smaller groups: up to 25 people in cinema, up to 20 in parliamentary, up to 16 in U-shape, and up to 12 in block. For confidential discussions or breakouts outside the main rooms, further corners are available – for example, in the Stüberl, in the library, or in the piano bar with its seating groups.

The basic equipment includes a telephone, screen, blackout blinds, air conditioning with UV-C air disinfection, two flip charts, four double-sided pin boards, and a fully equipped moderation case. A podium is free of charge, and projectors with permanently integrated HDMI connections can be rented on a daily basis. The rooms have exits to the outdoors – a plus for breaks in the green or group work outdoors in good weather. The house charges room rental per room independently of the duration of use on the event day, which simplifies calculation. For multi-day formats, room contingents are available; the overnight price already includes the business package with breakfast, WLAN, parking, and access to the wellness area. The kitchen accompanies conferences with snack packages (e.g., pretzels/cheese, fruit/yogurt, homemade cakes) as well as with menus or business buffets (from 35 persons). Company-specific requests – vegetarian, vegan, allergies – are also coordinated in advance.

Practical tip for organizers: The choice of seating arrangement has a significant impact on capacity and interaction. Those needing maximum participants should choose theater seating; for training sessions requiring note-taking, parliamentary or herringbone is recommended; for workshops and discussions, U-shape is often the best choice. Thanks to the air conditioning with UV-C air disinfection, the rooms remain pleasant even on hot days. For hybrid elements, the existing connections can be combined with external conference technology; a quick tech check the day before ensures a relaxed start. Breakout sessions can be held in the library, Stüberl, or piano bar – short distances included.

Room Categories, Offers, and Booking

The Drahthammer Schlößl has 43 individually designed rooms, which are regularly rearranged according to the website. The categories are based on location and amenities: Schlößl rooms, south wing rooms, maisonette/studio, and the Drahthammer suite. Example prices, as mentioned on the hotel homepage, give a sense of the level: Schlößl rooms as single rooms from €90 or double from €120 per night; south wing rooms from €110 (single) or €140 (double); maisonette/studio from €140 (single occupancy) or €160 (double occupancy); Drahthammer suite from €160 (single) or €190 (double). Depending on the season, availability, event dates, and chosen arrangement, the valid prices may vary – therefore, it is advisable to check the current rates when making booking inquiries.

The business package for conference guests includes breakfast buffet (07:00–10:00), WLAN, parking, and the use of the in-house wellness area; two E-charging points can be used for a fee. For couples or connoisseurs, it is worth keeping an eye on the culinary calendar: Candlelight dinner evenings, themed enjoyment evenings, and seasonal specials like Easter menus or summer barbecue evenings on the terrace are regularly offered. For family trips, the paths to the old town are short, and excursions along the Vils start right outside the door. Thanks to the quiet location, one sleeps close to the city but in greenery. The rooms are – typical for the house – each individually designed in color and room layout, so that regular guests always discover new accents.

For reservations, the phone and email of the reception are available; the reception is staffed daily. Those planning their event can request room contingents or set options. In case of high demand (e.g., during wedding season or on trade fair/public holiday dates), an early inquiry is advisable. Vouchers are also available and are suitable for birthdays, anniversaries, or as a gesture for employees.

History and Special Features

The history of the place Drahthammer is unusually rich. The hotel history page and the preservation notes report on a tradition that dates back to the 11th century. In the register of Duke Ludwig the Strict, the "Neumühle" ("novum molendinum") was first mentioned below Amberg around 1280 – presumably older and possibly already given to the Bishop of Bamberg with Amberg in 1034. The dam of the mill was significant for navigation on the Vils because it regulated the damming before departures and the closing of the weir after return. From the late Middle Ages, the Zainhammer (the beating of iron into bars) and wire drawing emerged; in 1413, a wire drawer is mentioned in the city's copy book, and from 1475, "wire masters" worked at the Neumühle for decades. The term Drahthammer prevailed and remained, even after the city reacquired the complex in 1559 and ceased wire production.

The current hotel character goes back to a comprehensive restoration in the 1980s: In 1986, the Trettenbach family took over the former hammer lord's house and converted it into a hotel-restaurant. Today, the ensemble is listed as a historical monument; at the same time, it transports history into the present: Guests experience a princely atmosphere with modern rooms, air-conditioned halls, gastronomic quality, and loving details like the splash fountain in the courtyard or retreats in the library and Stüberl. The location by the water, surrounded by paths and greenery, provides both tranquility and proximity to the city. Those wishing to discover Amberg can start walks along the Vils from the Schlößl, plan a detour to the boat trips, or explore the old town with its alleys, churches, and squares. Thus, a hotel stay becomes a small excursion into the cultural history of the Upper Palatinate – with culinary highlights and heartfelt service as a common thread.

The Drahthammer Schlößl is a very lovingly and tastefully decorated hotel in the best location! What we really liked was the beautifully located breakfast terrace and the friendly service. Additionally, despite the central location, there is a large and free hotel parking lot. You can easily walk to the city in about 15 minutes. We really enjoyed it and will come back!

We only had dinner at the Drahthammer Schlößl. Therefore, my review only pertains to the restaurant. The food was really very good. Starters "Salmon Cigar" and duck liver beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. Main courses were top-notch in taste and appearance. Portions were unexpectedly quite large. Really generous. Price/performance was therefore completely fine. Service was nice and attentive. There are alcoholic drinks and, which we find very good, some non-alcoholic drinks and cocktails as well. Conclusion: upscale cuisine at moderate prices and large portions. Highly recommended 5 stars

Easily accessible and beautifully located by the Vils with plenty of parking options, including EV charging stations. Friendly reception. The hotel is spacious with many seating areas/nooks. The rooms are reached by stairs, are quiet, clean, and sufficiently large with a cozy atmosphere. The breakfast buffet is fresh, plentiful - everything your heart desires. It's a shame there are no small dishes offered in the restaurant. The price/performance ratio is good.

The location is by the Vils, but the industrial charm all around and being on a big road is not nice. Supposedly, the hotel has 4 stars - but we have never stayed in such a terrible place (except in very young years in youth hostels) and that for the steep price! There is a simpler room category with a very tiny, old bathroom, but it is still quite nicely furnished. We booked the supposedly higher, better category. The larger room was, among other things, fitted with the cheapest needle felt. The walls had a primitive color scheme, the small toilet room WITHOUT a sink - how disgusting - was ancient. The bathroom was relatively new, but not really of good quality, it seemed to have been renovated by amateurs. The mentioned seating area did not exist - or was it the little corner by the stairs? The only positives about the hotel are the nice staff and the many little seating areas in the huge lobby.
