Cineplex Amberg | Program & Prices
The Cineplex Amberg is the modern multiplex of the Vilsstadt – centrally located on Regensburger Straße and easily found due to its prominent position at the roundabout. Visitors can expect a combination of great cinema and comfortable service: 8 halls with a total of 969 seats, Dolby 7.1 surround sound in all halls, comfortable premium boxes, and a dedicated 4DX hall, where wind, scent, mist, and moving seats significantly enhance the movie experience. The venue is operated by the regionally anchored family business Thomas Filmtheater and offers a program that is updated daily – from major new releases to arthouse films and event series. With parking available directly at the cinema and an attached gastronomic offering, the complete movie night can be enjoyed in one place. For those who prefer convenience, seats can be easily secured online or via app, and short distances can be found on-site between the foyer, snack counter, halls, and – if desired – the adjacent restaurant. This makes a trip to the cinema a well-rounded affair, whether spontaneously during the week or planned for the weekend.
Current Program at Cineplex Amberg: today, tomorrow, and highlights
The program of Cineplex Amberg is deliberately diverse and is continuously renewed. Numerous screenings in 8 halls are scheduled daily – from blockbusters with a large screen effect and family films to dramas, comedies, and award-winning arthouse titles. Additionally, curated series provide variety: in the English Showtimes, selected films are shown in their original version, Best of Cinema brings classics back to the big screen, and under the label CineArt, sophisticated international productions are featured. For those who love surprises, regular and thematic sneak previews can be found; for the youngest visitors, there is the Little Kids Cinema with reduced volume and no advertisements. Music and culture fans can look forward to live broadcasts and recordings from opera and concerts – such as MET Opera transmissions or special classical events. Anime highlights (e.g., major franchises, regularly depending on availability) are in high demand in Amberg and are sometimes shown as event screenings; fixed series prices are offered for some anime dates. All these formats are clearly indicated in the weekly and daily program, including age ratings and runtimes. A special highlight is the 4DX hall: here, selected films are shown with motion seats and environmental effects, making action scenes, nature moments, or weather effects physically experienceable. 4DX screenings are clearly marked in the schedule, sometimes also in 3D. For families, the venue offers family-friendly times and prices, such as during previews on weekends. Those wishing to go to the cinema today or tomorrow can easily check the current times in the digital program overview of Cineplex Amberg, filter by format (2D/3D), language (OV/OmU), and series if needed, and then book their exact seats. Popular titles and event screenings can sell out quickly, so early reservation is advisable. Information on new films and specials can be found on the cinema's homepage, in the event calendar, and in the app.
Tickets and Prices: Categories, Supplements, and Savings Tips
The pricing structure of Cineplex Amberg is transparent: there are three seating categories – stalls, boxes, and premium – as well as a separate 4DX rate. Regular tickets start at €8.00 in the stalls, €10.50 in the boxes, and €13.00 in the premium category. For screenings in the 4DX hall, separate prices apply starting at €16.50. Discounts are available, for example, for children up to and including 11 years (until 6:00 PM), as well as for students, trainees, those in federal volunteer service, holders of the volunteer card, or families (parents/grandparents accompanying their children/grandchildren up to 11 years). Persons with recognized disabilities (from 50% GdB/MdE) receive reduced rates with appropriate identification; if the letter B is noted, the accompanying person also benefits. Depending on the screening, additional charges may apply: 3D screenings typically cost an extra €3.00 including glasses handling, film-specific surcharges vary between €0.50 and €3.00, and the upgrade to higher seating areas (boxes/premium) incurs moderate additional fees. When redeeming vouchers or free tickets, additional charges may apply; 4DX redemption of free tickets is generally excluded. Fixed prices apply for some series: anime events typically range between €12.00 and €20.00 depending on the seating category, MET Opera transmissions between €30.00 and €36.00, the film breakfast costs €18.00 (including offer), Little Kids Cinema €5.00, sneak formats €5.00–6.00. These examples help with orientation; the prices for the respective screening on the booking page are binding. Practical tip: during the online purchase process, all surcharges and discounts are transparently displayed, including seating category and possibly 3D/4DX. Common payment options such as credit card, PayPal, and – depending on the cinema and time – giropay are usually available. Frequent visitors also benefit from bonus programs and promotional offers from the Cineplex group (e.g., benefit promotions, occasional specials). Digital booking also allows for easy cancellation up to 30 minutes before the start within one's own account if plans change at short notice.
Opening Hours, Contact, and On-Site Service
Cineplex Amberg adjusts its opening hours according to the current screening schedule. It opens daily 15 minutes before the first screening; ticket sales and entry operations run until 15 minutes after the start of the last screening. This ensures that the foyer, snack counter, and entry are arranged so that guests can arrive in time before the film starts and take their seats without haste. For inquiries, in addition to the reception on-site, an online contact form and the cinema phone number 09621 8979677 are available. The postal address is: Regensburger Straße 1–3, 92224 Amberg. The location is designed to be barrier-friendly; wheelchair spaces are indicated in the hall information, and the entrances are partially at the level of certain rows, allowing for level access without steps. In the visitor FAQ, the 4DX hall is not recommended for wheelchair users and persons with certain health restrictions due to its moving seats and effects; in case of doubt, a brief consultation with the team on-site is advisable. The service includes modern ticket kiosks and precise online seat purchasing, reducing waiting times. Those with questions about age ratings (FSK), original versions, or family-friendly screenings can find information directly in the program. Cancellation policies are customer-friendly within the My-Cineplex account, and refunds can take up to two weeks depending on the payment method. Tip: For popular new releases, event specials, and 4DX dates, it is advisable to arrive a bit earlier to grab snacks and ensure a relaxed entry.
Directions and Parking at Cineplex Amberg
The cinema is located at Regensburger Straße 1–3, directly at the large roundabout. The location is very accessible by car; the approach via federal roads and city-designated routes leads visitors quickly to the venue. There are designated parking spaces around the cinema; according to city information, favorable short-term rates of €0.70 per hour and €1.40 for up to 5 hours apply at the Cineplex tariff point. Those using a smartphone can take advantage of convenient mobile parking: either via the PayByPhone app or by SMS, with the specific zone identification and short number indicated on the parking signs on-site. Alternatively, several municipal parking garages are available nearby, such as the parking garage at Ziegeltor or the parking garage at Kurfürstenbad; both are open daily and offer transparent daily rates (the first hour usually costs €1.50, each additional started hour €1.00; reduced maximum prices apply at night). For longer stays – such as when shopping before or after the film – parking spaces like the Schießstätteweg parking lot can also be interesting, which offers favorable multi-hour and daily rates. The city's parking guidance system and signage facilitate orientation, although for pure cinema visits, the parking spaces directly at Cineplex are particularly convenient due to their proximity. Those arriving by public transport will also find short distances: connections towards the city center and Amberg train station allow for a quick transfer on foot. Since events and peak times occasionally coincide at the cinema location (weekends, holidays, holiday cinema), it is advisable to plan a little buffer time for parking searches, especially for major new releases or 4DX blockbusters.
Snacks, Restaurant, and Dining Before the Film
For many guests, popcorn, nachos, and cold drinks are part of the cinema experience – Cineplex Amberg offers familiar classics at its counters along with soft drinks, water, and coffee specialties. For those looking to enhance their evening gastronomically, there is a restaurant offering directly at the location: On April 29, 2025, HIRO SAKAO Amberg opened at Cineplex, in the former premises of Weissglut. The Japanese concept focuses on high-quality sushi variations, izakaya tapas, gyoza, and other cold and warm dishes – ideal for a quick stop before the screening or a cozy chat after the film. The address is the same as the cinema location (Regensburger Straße 1–3), ensuring extremely short walking distances. Previously, Weissglut was located at the same spot; media reports from 2024 indicated an insolvency procedure there, prompting the gastronomy at the location to re-establish itself. For current opening hours, reservations, and menu details, the restaurant itself is the right contact. Additionally, it is worth checking seasonal cinema promotions, such as combo offers, thematic events (e.g., film breakfast in the morning followed by a film), or specials around major film releases. Drinks and snacks can be selected online or on-site at the cinema in advance; those wishing to collect points can use the Cineplex group's bonus program, which offers benefits when purchasing tickets and snacks. Families will find screenings in the Little Kids Cinema with reduced volume and no advertisements; small snacks are particularly popular there. And for those who prefer savory over sweet popcorn, nachos with various dips are available – during the break or before the film starts. This makes for an easily planned evening of cinema and culinary delights, without additional journeys through the city.
Seating Plan, Halls, and Technology: the Best Seats
With 8 halls and 969 seats, Cineplex Amberg remains clear and versatile. The hall capacities are evenly distributed – from the large premiere and event hall to smaller halls for intimate arthouse moments. The official hall overview from the operator Thomas Filmtheater lists, for example: Cinema 1 with 231 seats (including 1 wheelchair space), Cinema 2 with 153 seats (including 1 wheelchair space), Cinema 3 with 77 seats (including 1 wheelchair space), the 4DX hall with 84 seats, as well as Halls 5 and 6 with 97 seats each (each with 1 wheelchair space) and Halls 7 and 8 with 115 seats each (each with 1 wheelchair space). In all halls, Dolby 7.1 systems provide spatial sound; premium box seats offer additional comfort and legroom. Those looking for the best seats typically orient themselves to the middle rows in the central image field; for 3D or 4DX, a row further back is often advisable to maintain a harmonious field of vision. Practical tips are provided by the cinema in its visitor FAQ: entrances are located at the level of certain rows (e.g., in Cinema 1 on the left, Row E at entrance height; several other halls have Row A at entrance height), making level access easier. Designated seats for wheelchair users are marked in the seating plan view; for the 4DX hall, the cinema advises against a visit for safety reasons or recommends prior consultation, as motion seats and effect devices are in operation. Seat selection is done online with precise seat allocation: already booked seats and seating areas are clearly recognizable, and rules for optimal hall occupancy (Seating Rules) prevent unwanted single seats or unfavorable gaps. This helps to find contiguous seats even in well-attended screenings. A gallery with impressions of the foyer, halls, and 4DX setup also conveys visual impressions of the venue. For 3D screenings, the glasses logistics are well thought out (surcharge including handling), and for live events such as opera broadcasts, the combination of image brightness, sound, and seating comfort also impresses over longer durations. Overall, the venue combines technology, comfort, and clarity into an experience that is well-suited for both major film releases and special series.
Vouchers, Booking, and Services: Planning Made Easy
Those wishing to gift cinema joy can use vouchers from the Cineplex group – they are available online in the shop and can usually be used for both tickets and snacks. Additionally, the KINO voucher (25-€ gift card from Retailo AG) available in stores can be redeemed at all Cineplex cinemas on-site. The digital booking at Cineplex Amberg is intuitive: during the selection process, one can see the hall, seating plan, price per seating category, and any surcharges (3D, 4DX, film-specific). After logging into the My-Cineplex account, booking is completed in just a few steps; cancellations are possible up to 30 minutes before the start of the screening. Payment options include common online options such as PayPal, credit card, and giropay, depending on the location and time. For additional convenience, ticket kiosks in the foyer also allow for quick ticket access for those wishing to buy on-site. Parents benefit from formats such as the Little Kids Cinema (without advertisements, quieter) and family-friendly previews, while film fans can specifically filter their desired version (OV, OmU, 2D/3D, 4DX). Those wishing to collect photos and impressions in advance can check the cinema's image gallery; there, exterior views, the 4DX hall, foyer, and seating examples can be seen. For groups, companies, or private events, halls can also be rented – the operator points out that the halls are available for lectures, conferences, or private screenings; inquiries go through the contact form. Overall, it applies: those keeping an eye on the program start of a highly anticipated premiere should reserve early and check the times again on the day of the screening. This makes planning reliable, whether for tonight, tomorrow afternoon, or the next Sunday matinee.

Unfortunately, there are absolute shortcomings in the availability of new food and drinks. As adults, we had extremely long wait times for 1 medium popcorn. It's unfortunately absolutely unsuitable for school and children's groups. Kids can't buy anything for themselves. There was sadly a complete lack of consideration for the target audience. The cinema is and remains a special experience, but now without popcorn 😕

The cinema is very large and has a great variety of films. The entrance hall is huge and offers extensive options for buying snacks and drinks. This now runs at a ordering kiosk with a display, where you order snacks, drinks, and even tickets, and then pick up your order at the pickup kiosk with an order number. This works quickly and results in shorter wait times. The auditoriums are nice and clean, and the seating is very comfortable. Furthermore, the restroom is well-equipped except for the currently closed urinals. Highly recommended.

Unfortunately, I can only give 3 stars. Since the renovation, you can no longer pay for online tickets with Klarna instant transfer. Only with credit card or PayPal. That's really stupid!

Cinema and staff are great, but the reason I deducted 2 stars is that the popcorn, whether sweet or salty, was old, as were the nachos, and the cheapest drinks you can serve. I understand that the nachos and popcorn are pre-made, but if I pay for it, I expect popcorn that hasn't been sitting out for hours and nachos that don't taste like they've been left outside all night.

Best cinema in the region. I regularly drive from Nuremberg just to go to this cinema. Special features: 4DX cinema (also for English original versions!!!) Special editions (cups, popcorn buckets, topper figures) are unfortunately found far too rarely. Everything is also clean and just 5 minutes from the train station. And during the annual cinema weekend, it's only 5 euros, while some other cinemas charge full price (Admiral Nuremberg) or only offer 50 percent discount (Cinecitta Nuremberg). Keep it up!
