With the flashlight into the earth's interior: The Osterhöhle calls!
On May 28, 2026, the most fascinating underground world of the Upper Palatinate opens up for explorers: Together with Ranger Sabrina, you will experience the nearly 185-meter-long Osterhöhle near Neukirchen – natural, unlit, and a true discovery experience for the whole family. City tour in the best sense: vibrant local history, cultural and natural knowledge, sensory impressions to touch.
Fascinating stalactite world and local history
Already mentioned around 1630 and accessible as a show cave since 1905, the Osterhöhle features dome-shaped chambers, sinter basins, and fine stalactite ornaments. The tour takes place without electric light – this is precisely why the authentic atmosphere feels so intense. Your guide imparts solid knowledge about karst, the protection of bats, and regional speleology.
Expertise on site: Exploring with a certified ranger
Sabrina Sedlacek, founder of Jura Ranger, is a certified ranger, Bavarian nature conservation guardian, and environmental educator. She combines expert knowledge with vivid examples from local history and makes nature education a sustainable experience – ideal for families, school classes, and curious explorers.
Route, duration, and equipment
The cave tour lasts about 30 minutes; depending on the group, there is a short approach walk from the meeting point at the Waldschänke. Required: flashlight, sturdy shoes, weather-appropriate, robust clothing. Children from 5 years old are allowed to visit the cave. Groups are kept small (up to about 10 people) – this keeps the atmosphere calm and safety high.
Arriving and orienting yourself
The meeting point is at the Osterhöhle/Waldschänke near Trondorf (parcel number 56, 92259 Neukirchen b. Sulzbach-Rosenberg). Parking spaces are a few minutes' walk away. By train, you can reach Neukirchen on the route from Nuremberg to Regensburg; from there, a marked hiking path leads to the cave.
Nature conservation with respect
The cave is reserved for bats as a winter quarters from November to March. From Easter to October, it opens for visitors – always in an environmentally friendly manner, with clear rules and sensitive guidance.
Conclusion: You can expect cultural enrichment and nature knowledge in a real stalactite cave – compact, safely guided, full of sensory impressions. Secure your places now and discover the underground world of the Upper Palatinate!
