With the flashlight into the underworld: Discover the Easter Cave
This guided city tour into the earth combines discovery experience and cultural enrichment: Together with Ranger Sabrina, you will explore the nearly 185-meter-long Easter Cave near Neukirchen – a dripstone cave without electric lighting. With your own flashlight, families, nature lovers, and curious explorers will experience local history and the fragile ecosystem up close.
Geology at your fingertips: Stalactites, sinter basins, and cave lake
Immediately after entering, a silent world of limestone, delicate sinter formations, and shimmering sediments unfolds. Your guide explains the formation of the karst landscape in the Franconian Jura, shows how stalactites grow, and why touches hinder their further growth. Stops such as sinter basins and a small cave lake make the local history of the show cave tangible – knowledge transfer with goosebump moments.
Safe and family-friendly: short paths, great impressions
The path length is about 1 kilometer. This makes the tour ideal for families. A stable step, warm clothing, and a good flashlight are sufficient. It is cool in the cave – the constant temperature ensures a pleasant microclimate but requires a jacket and sturdy footwear. Your guide controls the pace of the group and ensures orientation in the darker passages.
Insider knowledge from the ranger: Biodiversity and protection rules
Ranger Sabrina combines expertise about bats, tiny organisms in cave waters, and the importance of cave protection. She shows how responsible visitors preserve the cultural heritage and the sensitive habitat: behave quietly, touch nothing, leave nothing behind. Thus, nature education becomes an experience – educational, respectful, and inspiring.
Access, orientation, and infrastructure
The Easter Cave is located between Trondorf and Lockenricht. Signage from the B14 and the St 2164 (AS39) leads to the parking lot. From the parking lot, it is about 100 meters to the hut with a beer garden. Public transport access is possible via the Neukirchen train station (B Sulzbach-Rosenberg) on the Nürnberg–Regensburg line; from there, marked hiking trails lead towards the cave area. For drivers, parking is available at the designated parking lot.
