Experience Renaissance and Baroque in Motion
When historical step sequences, courtly gestures, and rhythmic formations come together in a common movement picture, a special access to European dance history opens up. The course Introduction to Historical Dances invites participants to practically learn dances of the Renaissance and Baroque and discover their cultural contexts through dance.
Historical Dances Come Alive
The focus is on basic step sequences, figures, and formations. Participants will try out typical movement styles, body postures, and partner changes and experience how closely dance, music, and social order were connected. A choreographic language emerges from individual movements, characterized by precision, posture, and subtle interplay.
Dramaturgy from Rhythm, Space, and Encounter
The practice of historical dance follows its own dramaturgy: Every step sets an accent, every formation tells something about proximity, rank, and social etiquette. In the Jahnschule, the course room becomes an open stage where Renaissance and Baroque do not appear as abstract epochs but become tangible through movement, acoustics, and collective dancing.
Dance History with Practical Experience
In addition to movement, the course conveys historical backgrounds, dance etiquette, and the influence of societal developments on dance forms. This combination of cultural-historical context and practical practice makes the offering a vivid stage experience without an audience: Participants shape the theatrical atmosphere themselves.
Four Dates for a Start
The course takes place on four Fridays from November 13 to December 4, 2026. Under the guidance of Sarina Wagner, 90 minutes are available each time to gain security in historical dances step by step. Comfortable clothing and, if needed, a skirt for women are recommended.
Conclusion: Those who want to not only observe but also understand historical dance art with their own bodies will find a lively introduction here. Look forward to a cultural-historical stage experience where music, posture, space, and encounter merge into a common choreography. Registration is required.
