Perspectives at the Air Museum Amberg: Architecture as Poetic Vertical

The special exhibition Perspectives by the Neu-Ulm photographer Günther Bayerl transforms the Gothic house chapel of the Air Museum into a quiet resonance chamber. In cooperation with the Diocesan Museum Regensburg, Bayerl radically points the camera upwards: ceiling views become precise compositions that convey space, light, and structure into a concentrated viewing of the work.

Reading Architecture: Symmetry, Rhythm, Light

Consistently symmetrical shots distill the formal and constructive basic structures of sacred and profane spaces. Ribs, panels, domes, and beam layers emerge as graphic scores; an interplay of the painting of materials and the sculpture of light. The exhibition atmosphere invites an aesthetic experience that trains the gaze and slows down seeing.

Photography as Spatial Study

Bayerl's series explores the genre of architectural photography between document and abstraction. The strict curation focuses on format, axes, and vanishing points; clear hanging and calm light favor contemplative viewing of the work. In dialogue, the images unfold a quiet dramaturgy: from the static ornament to the floating surface.

Artistic Background

Günther Bayerl, born in 1983 in Aalen, studied Digital Media with a focus on photography in Ulm and Art Photography at the University of Tasmania. He has been working as a freelancer since 2011 and was awarded the ITB Book Award 2018 for the project World Heritage; nominations for the Sony World Photography Awards mark his expertise in architectural photography.

Education and Mediation

The Air Museum conveys art, design, and architecture around the theme of air. Guided tours are possible upon request; the exhibition in the chapel is situated on the ground floor and is therefore easily accessible. The accessibility of the building is limited due to the historical structure; the ground floor with the current special exhibition is accessible.

Conclusion: Perspectives gathers photographic ceiling views as a school of seeing. Those who love architecture discover colors, shapes, and spatial effects beyond everyday optics. A concentrated art experience that tempts one to look closely – an absolute must to experience live.
