Sparda-Bank Art Prize 2025: Two Strong Positions at the City Gallery Amberg

The City Gallery ALTE FEUERWACHE will transform starting April 11, 2026, into an intense, multisensory art experience: Belle Shafir from Tel Aviv and Hanna Regina Uber from Amberg/Freudenberg will occupy the spaces with installations, sculpture, and artistic expressions. Admission is free, and access is through the main entrance of the Amberg City Museum.

Work Consideration: Material, Memory, Spatial Effect

In the exhibition atmosphere of the City Gallery, Shafir's poetic yet precise material language meets Ubers's sculptural handwriting. Shafir, born in 1953 in Amberg and active in Israel since the 1970s, uses organic materials such as horsehair, paper, and video in installations that penetrate memory, identity, and physicality. Her works oscillate between nature and culture, developing a dense aesthetic experience.

Uber, rooted as a sculptor in the region, represents participatory sculpture and artisanal bronze processes. Her thinking revolves around form, surface, and community: reliefs, casts, and walkable installations open the view to the dialogical potential of art in urban space as well as in the White Cube.

Context and Curating: Art Direction and Discourse

The exhibition is in the spirit of the Sparda-Bank Art Prize Amberg, which promotes young positions in East Bavaria and will be presented in the spring of 2026 at the City Gallery. In the tension between painting, sculpture, installation, and new media, both artists develop a clear contemporary language. Curatorially, the exhibition focuses on the sensory evidence of material and the question of how personal and collective memory inscribes itself in space and surface.

Colors, Light, Materials: A Sensory Art Experience

Fine structures of intertwined hair, video light, and shadows modulate the rooms and transform image carriers, walls, and sight axes into carriers of time. Bronze surfaces, patina, and reliefs unfold tactile stimuli. The interplay of warm material tones and cooler light zones sharpens perception and creates a contemplative yet energetic spatial dramaturgy.

Education and Mediation: Cultural Education on Site

The City Gallery ALTE FEUERWACHE is part of AMBERG.MUSEUM. Regular opening hours allow for focused work consideration; information on guided tours and workshops is provided by the museum. Thus, the exhibition connects artistic quality with a clear educational mandate for the region.

Conclusion: Visitors can expect a succinctly curated encounter with two independent artistic handwritings. Anyone wishing to experience material poetry, installation art, and contemporary sculpture in a precisely framed exhibition space should not miss this show.
