An artistic experience between vault, light, and upward gaze
The Air Museum Amberg opens a special exhibition in the Gothic house chapel, providing a space for quiet yet highly concentrated observation of the works. The photographic series by Günther Bayerl consistently directs the gaze upwards, releasing architecture from its usual interpretation: ceilings, vaults, and constructive lines appear as formal scores of symmetry, rhythm, and atmosphere.
Architecture as image surface
Bayerl's photographs reduce spaces to their structural elements. The view of ceiling perspectives makes visible how lines, light, and proportions shape the architectural experience. Especially in the Gothic house chapel, this perspective unfolds a particular effect: the historic ambiance encounters a precise, almost meditative visual language.
Photography between clarity and silence
Günther Bayerl, born in 1983 in Aalen, studied Digital Media with a focus on photography at the University of Ulm and later Art Photography at the University of Tasmania in Hobart. Since 2011, he has worked as a freelance photographer. His work is characterized by travel, architectural observation, and a sensitive perception of cultural spaces. The photo book World Heritage – Germany's Living Past was awarded the ITB BookAward in 2018, highlighting his documentary and aesthetic competence.
An exhibition venue with its own profile
The Air Museum Amberg sees itself as an interdisciplinary place where air is experienced in all its dimensions – artistically, technically, architecturally, and didactically. The current special exhibition ideally fits into this exhibition atmosphere: it combines perception training, cultural education, and the joy of unfamiliar perspectives.
Visit, tours, and conditions
The museum is open on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 2 to 5 PM, as well as Fridays to Sundays and on public holidays from 11 AM to 5 PM; it is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. Tours are possible upon request even outside of regular hours. Due to the historical building substance, the Air Museum is not barrier-free; however, the ground floor is accessible. Admission and offerings make the visit a compact, inspiring art journey into the old town of Amberg.
This exhibition is aimed at all who appreciate photography as a precise art form and architecture as a sensual experience. Those who want to see the space anew will find an exhibition that feels quiet and resonates long after. A visit is definitely worthwhile.
