Year Overview 2026: What’s Worthwhile When

Amberg works with recurring, seasonal formats. For 2026, the following timeframes are emerging (all information subject to official confirmation):

• February 2026: Witches’ Night
• End of April 2026: Beer Festival and Krügl Market
• May/June 2026: Pentecost Dult; sometimes additional folk music formats
• June 2026: Old Town Festival (early summer weekend)
• July–September 2026: Downtown Wednesday Series “I AM AMBERG”
• May–August 2026: Dance Pavilion (open-air dance evenings)
• End of July/early August 2026: City Library Summer Festival; city children’s festival
• End of June–September 2026: Mountain festivals in the city and region (including Mariahilfberg, Annaberg, Frohnberg, Mausberg)
• August 2026: Fountain Festival
• September 2026: Open Monument Day (nationwide, second Sunday in September)
• End of September/early October 2026: Michaeli-Dult

In addition, there is a dense year-round program in museums, theater, city library, and the city event center.

Spring 2026: Witches’ Night, Beer Festival, and Pentecost Dult

February 2026: Witches’ Night

Witches’ Night sets an early highlight in the cultural year as an atmospheric city production. Light and sound installations as well as open venues in the old town are expected. The exact concept, theme routes, and venues will follow with the city’s official announcement.

End of April 2026: Beer Festival and Krügl Market

At the start of the spring season, regional breweries, music, and street markets come together. The Krügl Market complements the weekend with ceramics, crafts, and sales stalls. Stage times, market areas, and possible shopping Sundays will be published in the official announcements.

May/June 2026: Pentecost Dult

The Pentecost Dult is planned as a traditional meeting point with rides, culinary offerings, and music. Depending on the schedule, regional folk music formats complement the program. Families benefit from afternoon offerings and easily accessible areas.

Summer 2026: Old Town Festival, Downtown Series, Dance Pavilion & City Library

June 2026: Old Town Festival

In early summer, the old town becomes an open stage: The Old Town Festival brings together clubs, bands, and gastronomy on squares and in alleys. Several stages, themed areas, and a wide culinary offering shape the festival atmosphere. An exact weekend date will be communicated early; stage plans and possible access restrictions will follow final approval.

July–September 2026: “I AM AMBERG” – Wednesday Series

On selected summer Wednesdays, the city center transforms into thematic experience spaces – from live music to street art to small cultural formats in courtyards and squares. The weekly mottos and performing artists will be published on a rolling basis.

May–August 2026: Dance Pavilion

The Dance Pavilion offers open-air dance evenings for different dance styles. The dates are weather-dependent; short-term updates on start times, alternative dates, or cancellations will appear in the city calendar and on the organizers’ social media channels.

End of July/early August 2026: City Library Summer Festival & Children’s Festival

The City Library’s summer festival brings readings, activities for young people, media workshops, and occasional music offerings into the city space. A city children’s festival complements the same period with family-friendly programs, play stations, and hands-on activities.

Mountain Festivals 2026: Mariahilfberg, Annaberg, Frohnberg, Mausberg

Between the end of June and September 2026, traditional mountain festivals shape the region around Amberg. Among others, the following are expected:

• Mariahilfberg Festival (Amberg): End of June to early July 2026
• Annaberg Festival (Sulzbach-Rosenberg): July 2026
• Frohnberg Festival (Hahnbach): August 2026
• Mausberg Festival (Kastl/surroundings): September 2026

Typical features are church services and processions, brass band music, festival tents, rides, and regional cuisine. Daily schedules, procession times, and information on arrival and departure will be announced in good time by the respective organizers.

Late Summer and Autumn 2026: Fountain Festival, Monument Day, Michaeli-Dult

August 2026: Fountain Festival

At the Fountain Festival, historical and modern fountains in Amberg’s old town serve as a backdrop for music, culinary delights, and urban quality of stay. Depending on the concept, individual fountains are staged, sometimes with light installations or smaller stages. Location maps and stage times will follow the official program release.

September 2026: Open Monument Day

The nationwide day of action takes place on the second Sunday in September. In Amberg, selected monuments open with guided tours, insights, and sometimes special programs. The local program – including registration information for limited tours – will be published in advance on the city’s channels and the nationwide Monument Day website.

End of September/early October 2026: Michaeli-Dult

The Michaeli-Dult as the autumn Dult marks the transition towards the end of the year – with rides, culinary offerings, and accompanying cultural contributions. Detailed information on opening times, family offers, and safety rules will appear in the city’s event calendar.

Year-round 2026: Museums, Theater, City Library, Event Center

• Museums: City Museum (city and regional history) and Air Museum (air art, experiments) with permanent and changing special exhibitions.
• City Theater: Drama, musical theater, cabaret, and guest performances; the 2025/26 and 2026/27 seasons are continuously scheduled.
• City Library: Readings, discussion series, children’s events, literature and media formats – especially dense around the summer festival.
• Event Center: Concerts, comedy, exhibitions, and fairs with long-term planning.
